Until the early 1980s, the Franklin Block building on Congress Street was home to the Arcadia Theater. When the theater shut down, it became retail on the first floor and offices on the upper floors. The second floor was home to Graphic Details from 1999 to 2002.
Market Square has been the economic and commercial center of Portsmouth since the mid-1700s. It has been a military training ground, site of a meeting house and home of the State of New Hampshire’s Colonial Legislature.
